“You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them.”

AREA VIII ENVIROTHON

The Envirothon is an environmental education program for high school and elementary students which began in 1979 in Pennsylvania. It combines classroom learning with outdoor activities. Through the Envirothon, students develop an understanding of effective teamwork, as well as learning about Minnesota’s natural resources. They also gain valuable exposure to a range of disciplines while exploring possible career paths. Koochiching SWCD is part of the 9-county Area VIII, including north central MN SWCDs.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION DAYS

Outdoor Education days is an annual event held each May. The schools of Koochiching County gather together at The River Golf Course to learn about the outdoors and environment through various educational stations and agencies. Koochiching SWCD partners with Koochiching County Environmental Services Department each year using the Enviroscape model. Here, students interactively learn about storm runoff, pollution, and how people can be good stewards of the land. Koochiching SWCD is part of the 9-county Area VIII, including north central MN SWCDs.
