POTTED PLANTS LIST

FORAGER'S DELIGHT

WILD STRAWBERRY

Fragaria virginiana

4″ pot

3 INCLUDED

Wild Strawberry is a low-growing perennial groundcover reaching 4 to 8 inches in height. It spreads by runners, forming dense mats of foliage with trifoliate leaves and producing small, fragrant white flowers in spring, followed by sweet, red edible berries in early summer. This species thrives in open fields, woodland edges, and along roadsides and railroads, preferring well-drained soils.  It is excellent for erosion control, wildlife gardens, and as a native alternative to turfgrass in sunny to partially shaded areas.

MOUNTAIN MINT

Pyenanthemum Virginianum

4″ pot

3 INCLUDED

Virginia Mountain Mint is a highly aromatic, clump-forming perennial that grows 2 to 3 feet tall. It produces clusters of small, white to pale lavender flowers with purple spotting, blooming from mid to late summer. The plant attracts a variety of pollinators. It is commonly found in moist prairies, meadows, and along streambanks. Due to its strong fragrance, it is resistant to deer and rabbits. Virginia Mountain Mint is an excellent choice for rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and naturalized prairie plantings.

WILD GINGER

Asarum canadense

4″ pot

3 INCLUDED

Asarum canadense, known as Wild Ginger, is a low-growing perennial that reaches about 4 to 12 inches in height. It has heart-shaped, deciduous leaves and produces small, bell-shaped, maroon flowers near the ground in spring. Wild Ginger thrives in moist, rich woodlands and shaded areas with loamy soils and provides soil stabilization. Historically, its rhizomes were used as a ginger substitute and for medicinal purposes, though caution is advised due to potential toxicity.

OSTRICH FERN

Matteuccia struthiopteris

1 gallon pot

1INCLUDED

Ostrich Fern is a striking deciduous fern that can reach 2 to 6 feet in height. It prefers moist, shaded areas such as swampy woods, woodland edges, and streambanks. Its large, feathery fronds create a lush, tropical effect in shade gardens. This fern spreads by rhizomes, making it useful for erosion control and as a natural ground cover. The young fiddleheads are edible and were traditionally consumed by Indigenous peoples.

LOWBUSH BLUEBERRY

STARTER BLUEBERRY SHRUB

Vaccinium angustifolium

2 gallon pot

Lowbush Blueberry is a low-growing, deciduous shrub that typically reaches 12 to 20 inches tall. Common in dry woods, rocky outcrops, and pine barrens of northeastern and central Minnesota, it forms spreading colonies through underground rhizomes. In spring, it bears small, white to pinkish bell-shaped flowers followed by edible blue berries in summer. The foliage turns brilliant red in fall. It is ideal for naturalized landscapes, edible gardens, and restoration projects on acidic, sandy soils.
